Brown with light brown or tan banding across wings; oval; around 1/2 inch in length

Diet: Brown-banded cockroaches are opportunistic feeders so will eat organic or decaying matter, but prefer starch material such as books, envelopes, wallpaper, and even glue.

Habitat: Commonly found in upper cabinets, pantries, and closets, brown-banded cockroaches prefer dry, warm environments and stay away from sources of water. They enter structures looking for shelter and hide during the day. Although they are primarily active at night, they can be seen wandering during daylight hours in search of food.

Threats: Like other cockroach species, brown-banded roaches can carry and spread bacteria and diseases that cause food poisoning. In large infestations, they can pose health issues such as triggering allergies or exacerbating asthma attacks.

Control: To limit chance of infestation, seal cracks and crevices that are clear entry points for cockroaches, keep food in airtight containers, vacuum regularly, and clean up any crumbs or spills when they happen. You should also store garbage away from the home if possible.
