American Roach

Diet: Outdoors, the American cockroach will feed on leaves, small insects, fungi, and wood particles. When indoors, they forage for any crumbs or spilled food that they can find underneath appliances and around lower cabinets. They will also eat pet food that has been left out overnight.

Habitat:While American cockroaches generally live outdoors underneath damp mulch and vegetation, it is not uncommon to find them in indoor drains and pipes. They enter structures through garages, cracks, or open windows, and find their way into kitchens, basements, and bathrooms looking for food and water sources.

Threats: American cockroaches spread bacteria and other pathogens, making clean surfaces, food, and household items vulnerable to cockroach contamination. They are known to trigger allergies and exacerbate asthma attacks.

Control: Removing debris and excess cardboard from around your home, vacuuming regularly, sealing cracks and crevices, and eliminating any food or water sources are preventative measures.
